We always enjoy bringing readers news about Android operating system
news and especially speculating about what the next iteration will be
called. For some time now it has been rumored that the next major
update will be called Key Lime Pie and now it seems there’s further
evidence of this with an Android OS evolution graphic ending with what
appears to be an Android eating a slice of Key Lime Pie.
The graphic is being widely discussed as it appears to have been
created by a Google employee, Manu Cornet in Paris, France. Some sites
have been pretty excited and reported this as a confirmation of the next
Android OS being titled Key Lime Pie. However we hesitate to go that far and instead say it seems more likely but we can’t confirm it.
The graphic, which you can see below, comes from Bonkers World
and shows the evolution of the little Andy/Bugdroid figure that we all
know and love, each time holding or eating a sweet treat. We wonder how
many of you can list them all but for those who can’t it starts with
Cupcake followed by Donut, Éclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice
Cream Sandwich and then the provocative Key Lime Pie.
You can see Manu Cornet’s Google+ page here
where people are commenting on the graphic and wondering if this
definitely denotes that Key Lime Pie is next in the Android update
lineup, although one person seems to think the picture is of Apple Pie!
We think the cartoon-like drawing is actually really neat and wonder
how many Android enthusiasts would like it on their wall or on some form
of merchandise.
It was way back in March that we first heard
speculation that Android 5.0 would be called Key Lime Pie and was due
in 2013 and we spoke about this again very recently with reports that a
Sony Xperia phone had been spotted running a version
of Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie in benchmark tests. All things considered
then it certainly looks more than likely that K will stand for Key Lime
Pie.
